What's Buzz-worthy: I haven't historically been that big of a fan of this brand and its ticket aesthetic and that trend is basically the same here -- as is my grade -- though I think this design is stronger than last year. My hang-up? It's a tiny set and the rookies are only found among inserts or autos if you happen to find one. The base set is just 100 cards and you get 18 per pack based on this one. That's a lot of sets out there in Walmart pack trays ... and even more in hobby boxes where there's a lot more to find and a lot of ink, too. The lineup of inserts also is pretty simple but at least there were four here -- no retail-only Emerald parallels this time -- to help, though the base card ratio still feels high considering that set size. The stock is pretty brittle and chippy (typical style) with this pack showing that with top and bottom edge issues like divots and roughness which I have seen in a number of releases the last couple years. I'd probably open other formats to avoid some of this -- some if it may be from this packaging format since the inserts are on the backs. The bold edge colors also can show issues easily, too, with two of my best cards here (Brady and Lawrence) having bottom/top edge or corner spots -- not end of the world unless you like to grade. (I do.) If this was a larger set like Score or Prizm with actual RCs in the base set and then parallels atop that -- yes, I know it's not the historical model -- this one would be a fun break and one I'd rip as much as, say, Donruss or Score. This one feels like it's mostly about autographs, though the card backs here also are relatively complete vs. a lot of other brands. I like a lot here I just think there needs to be a little wider array of inclusions for those not buying by the case and only chasing autos.
Product Grade: B+
Pack Grade: B+ (a decent run of stars in base and inserts but also some damage)
Fun Grade: B
