What's Buzz-worthy: In my mind, this one might end up being a bit of a landmark release for college stuff due to one word -- Chrome -- and though this box didn't include a lot of it (or a single card for the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, either which made this box more of a dud for me) this one is still just that. It won't always be the best rip but this kind of Bryce Young-less oddity shouldn't happen all that often with a small base set and extra shots at all those names on parallels and autos. (Two autos per box here ... longer odds at retail.) Oddly, while a blaster box will yield roughly six Chrome cards (thanks to four retail-only Pink cards) it looks like hobby boxes will not include a lot more based on this one. There were seven between the basic Chromes and parallels and then two thicker-stock Invicta cards and then the ink. ... What is good here? Cardboard for guys as young as freshmen since it's an NIL release and that means this one could spark sales for years to come as players emerge as stars. That Green auto? One in 165. That Blue Chrome? One in 132 ... I just wish they were names I wanted -- and that the autographs had a little more going on. Statistically, that's great in the same box but the box just didn't feel that good to me after one good blaster and one not-as-solid one. The Green auto has sold relatively well so there does seem like potential there. The rest here? It had some of the usual suspects but not the one I had expected to see. One quirk here? If a player has two cards in the base checklist, only one gets the coveted "1st Bowman" logo ... something to watch for if people downplay the cards without that in terms of asking prices. (You might find steals that way.) ... As I noted last time, I was a little surprised to see this one go retail but I'm glad it did as the Chrome element to this NIL release -- there are active college football stars here not just guys who were just drafted -- helps collectors dabble there on the cheap. In this format, it's about your ink or color and whether you land bigger names on those or not. ... These are not CLC licensed so no formal team names or logos are in play here -- not even a simple state statement -- so that's a little bit of a challenge for the appeal, but that's licensing for you. As a collector, I like this one ... see my other breaks for more thoughts and more images.
Product Grade: A-
Box Grade: B+ (both parallels are rarer finds but I didn't land one big name I expected at all)
Fun Grade: B
